Please note: this was originally advertised as the 31st March which is INCORRECT!
This is no longer a Classic Motoring Society event (it is run by the Rotary Club of Avonhead), but it is one we support as its a great opportunity to dig out your classic vehicle and your (classic) family and friends and spend the day out and about, admiring everyone's amazing vehicles.
Twin Rivers Classic Car Parade 25th March, 2012
Organised by the Rotary Club of Avonhead. All proceeds to the Child Cancer Foundation.
After a years absence due to the February earthquake this event will be held this year with a special and unique twist.
The parade will have a shorter route because of road conditions, but this will be more than made up by our being the first public vehicles to drive down part of the new Southern Motorway, and car owners and enthusiasts are warmly invited to take part in both the display and parade, which is being strongly supported by The Paul Kelly Motor Company, along with Newstalk ZB, Classic Hits 97.7 FM, and the Christchurch City Council.
This will be the very first time that the public in their cars will be allowed over the Motorway which will close immediately afterwards until the full motorway is completed.
This special event has been authorized by N.Z.T.A and with the extensive co-operation of the contractor, Fulton Hogan Ltd.
As well as being a great day for all concerned, it is a Charity Event. From past parades the Rotary Club of Avonhead has successfully raised funds for The Horizon Day Option Trust [funds raised for a van, over 2 years], The Dyslexia Foundation, The Fred Hollows Foundation, and last year $10,000 for The Christchurch Charity Hospital Trust.
This year’s funds are for The Child Cancer Foundation who will use the money to provide special amenities for one room in the Child Cancer House, 20 Cashel Street, Christchurch. In order to make a worthwhile donation to the Foundation, a charge of $15 per entry will be made and a $10 fee for each spectators vehicle.
The parade will start and finish at the Canterbury Agricultural Park. Gates open 10.00am, parade starts 12.15pm. Rain check the following Sunday, 1st April.
