Cust Trip on 17th February
A fine and pleasand day arose (after a foul Saturday) for out trip to Cust. Eight cars with their occupants had a leisurely drive out to this pleasant North Canterbury township with its Route 72 cafe/bar and a quaint museum.
All participants wended their way with their own route selections, meeting at the cafe, then onto the museum. Back to the cafe for a nibble, then a trip to the old Cust motorcycle race circuit.
A talk by Eddie Shepherd, being a past Cust competitor, commentator and C.A.M.S. committee member, giving an insight into the originality of the nostalgic re-enactment of the Cust racing in 1983, twenty years after the final Grand Prix of 1963, meetings being held every 3 years until 1999.
This was followed by a drive around the circuit, stopping to explain the idiosyncrasies of the shingle road and its narrow, concrete sided bridges. A stop at the historic start/finish line landmark, a few photo shots for personal records and all agreed a great afternoon's outing was had.
